Guangning Museum

Ha Long Bay

When visiting Ha Long Bay, apart from taking a boat to see the rocks, the Quang Ninh Museum, known as the "Black Pearl," is definitely a landmark not to be missed. Designed by a renowned Spanish architect, the museum's exterior features large areas of reflective black glass, perfectly mirroring the sky and sea views of Ha Long Bay. This place is not only a must-visit photo spot for social media enthusiasts, but its rich and thoughtfully designed internal exhibitions also make it the best place to learn about the natural ecology of Ha Long Bay and the history of coal mining in Vietnam.

Detailed Content

Three Main Themed Floors: From Marine Ecology to Miners' Daily Life The Guangning Museum is divided into three floors, with excellent flow planning, and each floor offers distinctly different visual surprises:

Must-See Highlights

  • First Floor: Ocean and Natural Ecology: Upon entering the first floor lobby, the first thing that catches your eye is an enormous whale skeleton specimen, which is truly impressive. The exhibition area uses special lighting and tubular glass display cases to create the illusion of walking in the deep-sea world, perfectly showcasing the rich marine biodiversity of Ha Long Bay.

  • Second Floor: History and Culture: This floor displays the historical evolution of Guangning Province from prehistoric times, through the feudal period, to modern times. You can see ancient wooden boat models, traditional Vietnamese artifacts, and precious historical records from the anti-French and anti-American periods.

  • Third Floor: Coal Mining Industry Experience: This is the museum's most popular and distinctive exhibition area! Guangning Province is the most important coal mining area in Vietnam, and this floor has created a 1:1 scale replica of a coal mine tunnel. Visitors can personally walk into the dimly lit mine tunnel, experiencing the harsh environment and real tools that miners used underground, providing a strong sense of presence.

  • Black Glass Wall Photo Spot: The museum's exterior features a massive black glass wall, emblazoned with the striking words "BẢO TÀNG QUẢNG NINH," making it a classic photo spot that is a must-have when visiting Ha Long Bay.

Visiting Tips

  • Pay Attention to Lunch Break: The museum will clear out for a break between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM, so be sure to avoid this time when planning your itinerary to prevent waiting at the entrance.

  • Perfect Indoor Backup: If you encounter rainy weather in Ha Long Bay, or if the summer heat is too intense, Guangning Museum is definitely the best indoor retreat, with a visit lasting about 1.5 to 2 hours.
