Recommended Duration

Recommended stay: half a day, or a full day for a more relaxed itinerary.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit is from April to September each year, during which Da Nang experiences its dry season with plenty of sunshine, perfect for swimming and water activities. It is recommended to come in the early morning or late evening to avoid the harsh midday sun, allowing you to enjoy a more comfortable climate and experience the liveliest moments on the beach.

These are general planning suggestions. Actual visit duration depends on your itinerary and on-site conditions.

Detailed Content

History and Evaluation: From a U.S. Military Vacation Spot to a World-Class Attraction During the Vietnam War, My Khe Beach was a leisure vacation spot for the U.S. military (R&R spot), then known as "China Beach." With the end of the war and the opening of tourism in Vietnam, its unique geographical advantage (only one Dragon Bridge away from the city center) and unspoiled natural environment gradually attracted international attention. Besides Forbes, Australia's Sunday Herald Sun also rated it as one of the top ten most popular beaches in the world.

Must-Visit Highlights

  • Sunrise: It is highly recommended to arrive around 5 AM. Watching the sun slowly rise from the horizon, painting the sky and sea red, along with the silhouettes of fishermen starting their work, is the most breathtaking moment at My Khe Beach.

  • Basket Boat: The beach often features Vietnam's unique round bamboo basket boats (basket boats). Although there are no crazy spinning performances like in Hoi An's Canaan Island, the blue basket boats quietly resting on the beach make for a very local and picturesque backdrop.

  • Various Water Activities: The waves here are moderate, making it perfect for experiences like parasailing, jet skiing, or surfing. There are also many designated safe swimming areas with lifeguards nearby.

  • Coastal Seafood Stalls: Along Vo Nguyen Giap Street, there is a whole row of seafood restaurants. You can personally select live lobsters, crabs, and shellfish, with prices usually more affordable than upscale restaurants, while enjoying the sea view and delicious food.

Visiting Tips

  • Best Visiting Season: Every year from April to September is the dry season in Da Nang, with plenty of sunshine and stable waves, making it the best time to go swimming. October to January of the following year is the rainy season, with larger waves and cooler water temperatures, making swimming less suitable.

  • Avoid the Noon Sun: The sun in Vietnam at noon is very harsh, and there is almost no shade on the beach. It is recommended to follow the locals' schedule: come in the early morning or after 4 PM, when the beach is livelier and the temperature is most comfortable.

  • Bargaining Tips: If renting sun loungers from private vendors or purchasing water activity packages, it is advisable to confirm the price beforehand to avoid disputes later. Public shower areas are usually very affordable (around 2,000 - 5,000 VND).
